Information for Residents and Neighbors

Samstags Fussgängerzone

Dear residents and business owners located above the shops on Hüxstrasse,

As you will surely be informed through the media, we would like to officially inform you that, since June 2, 2012 there have been no cars allowed on Hüxstrasse on Saturdays between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. This information was also distributed by mail on May 16, 2012.

On Saturdays, we therefore ask you to remove your car from the street by 11 a.m. The street will be re-opened for automobile traffic at 6 p.m.

After test runs in 2010 and 2011, the shop owners are very pleased to report that 95% of the 406 households affected tolerate or support a „type of pedestrian zone“ on Saturdays (written survey in 2009). We would like to thank all of the residents for not opposing the correlating mayoral procedure announced on December 28, 2011 (see city newspaper article on January 10, 2012). This allowed the procedure to take legal effect. We, as the shop owners, guarantee that the residents will also be included in advance via written surveys in any future plans and developments at Hüxstrasse. There are currently no plans to extend the pedestrian zone times to other days of the week, since there is no majority to be had (>90%) among the residents and shop owners.

P.S.: Of course, it is possible to organize a move to or from Hüxstrasse on a Saturday, upon prior arrangement. Please remember that the traffic wardens usually arrive around 10:00 a.m., so keep in mind: If you have forgotten the time, even after 11:00 a.m., you must remove your vehicle towards Hüxterdamm.

We are happy to enjoy Mediterranean car-free flair with you every Saturday in Lübeck's most beautiful residential and shopping street!

Galerie Koch-Westenhoff

In 1955, the Galerie's head branch was founded by Greifswald native Bruno Koch.
From 1969 on, the Galerie has had a branch in Lübeck, which has been at the present location, a 17th-century Baroque-style gabled house, since 1974. In the same year, Margot Koch-Westenhoff took over the Galerie from her father. In 2009, the Galerie's management was transferred to the next generation, headed jointly by Stefan Westenhoff and Meike Zimmer. The Galerie's program includes paintings, watercolors, graphics, and sculptures of the classical modernist style, as well as works created by a number of contemporary artists. The program is presented on the one hand in 3-4 individual exhibitions per year, and on the other hand by the participants at art conventions in Düsseldorf, Karlsruhe, and Munich.

Weltladen e. V.

The Weltladen Lübeck has been located at Hüxstraße 83/85 since 2007. Our customers are taken on a journey to distant cultures when they stroll through the 120 square meters of store area. Whether it's craftwork from South Africa, novel tin cars with real collector's value from Madagascar, writing materials or unique music instruments:  you'll find special gifts for any occasion at the Weltladen Lübeck. Our continuously changing product range also offers an assortment of pleasures for your palate: food products including aromatic spices, delicious chocolate and wine round off your shopping experience. The products all have one thing in common: they all reach your hands via Fair Trade.

As a supporter of the “Fair Trade city of Lübeck”, the Weltladen is a specialty store for fairly traded wares which reflect the producers' dignity. The products come directly from partners in Africa, Asia,  Latin America, and partially even from Europe. The 35 dedicated team members are mostly volunteers. They spend a lot of time learning about the producers. Two full-time employees coordinate product procurement and presentation, as well as staff development and public relations.

You can enjoy a cup of fairly traded coffee at our café counter and learn a bit about other fairly traded products. Every month, we select a “coffee of the month” and a “coffee special,” such as coffee with cardamom. So you can try our wide assortment of coffee and discover your personal favorite. Of course, you can also purchase “Lübeck Kaffee” here.

Come to our tastings and try the delicacies we offer. We also periodically organize exhibitions and events such as speeches or lectures about development policy topics.

Wanted! If you are interested in participating in the Weltladen's work, then you are welcome to stop by, give us a call, or write an email.

We look forward to seeing you!
The Weltladen-Team
